Noriaki Mori
森 紀明
Noriaki Mori is a Japanese composer, band leader and saxophone player who works mainly between contemporary music, jazz and improvised music.
His music has been widely performed in Europe, North America and Asia including the music festivals, such as Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Acht Brücken - Musik für Köln - and Festival international de jazz de Montréal.
He was a finalist of BMI Charlie Parker Jazz Composers Competition 2009 and recipient of the Fellowship from the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan.
He currently works in Tokyo as a freelance composer and performer. He is a leader of Noriaki Mori Large Ensemble, co-founder of the artist collective, Crossings, and member of the jazz composers collective, Brilliant Corners.
He has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Saxophone Performance at Showa University of Music in Japan, Professional Diploma in Jazz Performance and Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music in USA, and Master’s degree in Composition at Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany.
現代音楽、ジャズ、即興音楽の間で主に活動する作曲家、バンドリーダー、サクソフォン奏者。
昭和音楽大学にてクラシカル・サクソフォンを、アメリカ、ボストンのバークリー音楽大学にてジャズを、ドイツ、ケルン音楽大学大学院にて作曲、電子音楽を学ぶ。これまでにサクソフォンを武藤賢一郎氏らに、ジャズ（演奏、理論、作編曲）を、George Garzone、Greg Hopkins、Joe Lovano各氏らに、作曲をMarkus Hechtle、Michael Beil両氏に師事。
2009年度文化庁芸術家在外研修員。
BMI Charlie Parker Jazz Composers Competition 2009ファイナリスト。
これまでに作品は、ダルムシュタット現代音楽講習会、Acht Brücken - Musik für Köln、モントリオール・ジャズ・フェスティバルをはじめ、北米、ヨーロッパ、アジア各地で演奏され、WDR3でも放送されている。
現在は東京を拠点に自己のビッグバンド等で活動する傍ら、フリーの作曲家、サクソフォン奏者としても活動している。Noriaki Mori Large Ensembleを主宰。アーティスト・コレクティブ、Crossingsの共同ファウンダー。ジャズ・コンポーザーズ・コレクティブ、Brilliant Cornersのメンバー。
